Venture into the fairytale world of the Six Little Pigs

In this modern spin on the three little pigs from the fairy tales, the six little pigs of “i-Wood Village” on a side street off Wenhua Rd. takes visitors into the magical world of cypress timber.

Wood was founded as Shu Yi Wood in Chiayi half a century ago. When the second-generation owner Wei-te Yan and his wife inherited the business, they started discussing new possibilities for timber with their elders. People didn’t understand or think their plan would work, but eventually they came around and i-Wood Village was born after three years of work. They now hope that this space will introduce more people to the many uses of wood, the secrets of trees in the wilderness, as well as the history of forestry. I-Wood will not only chart a new path for forestry but also keep the memories of timber alive in tourists.

To realize this vision, all of the interior decoration, writing, and spatial layouts were created by the Wei-te Yan and his wife. There is also a game area and DIY carpentry workshop so that visitors young and old can all come away with fun memories and realize the goal of learning through play.

In addition to the fun and games, be sure to try out the signature Hinoki Egg and Fruit Ice Blocks. Unlike your usual tea eggs, Hinoki Eggs are simmered in a secret herbal recipe and hinoki timber. It is therefore not only healthy and tasty but also leaves a faint hinoki fragrance in your mouth. The Fruit Ice Blocks are made from just milk and fruit. The owner insists on not using emulsifiers or other additives for visitors’ peace of mind and to preserve natural fruity flavors.

Wood Village might be a newcomer but their continued improvements have produced a steady increase in visitor numbers after just five years. They are now planning to host craft workshops for adults in the future. With such dedicated owners, i-Wood Village will no doubt continue to bring us new surprises in the future.

Recommended foods: Hinoki Egg, Fruit Ice Block, Dorayaki Ice Cream, Winter Gourd Tea
