Dasicuo Water Environment Education Park
5542 UpdatedDate:111-10-17

Dasicuo Water Environment Education Park was once a vacant lot next to Dasi  Ziwei Temple. Thanks to a water quality and shore environment re-engineering project funded under the Water Environment Improvement Program of the Executive Yuan’s Forward-looking Infrastructure Plan, the park can now conduct environmental education as well as improve water quality and perform ecological rehabilitation. The park covers 0.65 hectares and contains an underground gravel contact aeration tank with a daily treatment capacity of 3,000 tonnes. Pollutants in the water are broken down by naturally-occurring microorganisms. Treatment reduces the biochemical oxygen demand of domestic sewage by 66.1%, the amount of suspended solids by 78%, and the level of ammonia by 85%. Unlike the mixing and sedimentation technique used by conventional sewage treatment plants, natural purification requires no chemicals and is extremely friendly to the environment.

Daiscuo Water Environment Education Park uses natural purification techniques to improve the water quality. By developing an environmental education and experience that incorporates local cultural heritage, water purification and ecological conservation, it helps to boost environmental awareness, morality and responsibility among the general public, and support the building of an inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable city.
The Park contains sporting facilities such as basketball, badminton, and tennis courts. Other facilities include the children's playground, environmental education classroom, man-made wetlands, and bird-watching pavilion. In addition to being the first multi-purpose venue in Chiayi City designed for water purification, ecological conservation, environmental education, rest and leisure, it is also located on the bike path from downtown to the Flower Sea, and is convenient to visit.
