Location: Located in the north of " Chia-Nan Plain" in the Southwest part of Taiwan , about one kilometer away from Tropic of Cancer through the south of this city.

Area: 15.8 kilometers wide from West to North, and 10.5 kilometers long from North to South in an area of about 60 square kilometers.

Population: More than 260,000 people.

rainfall 1697 millimeters.

In 1644, the Dutch brought Chiayi City into the administrative district of the " Northern District
Meeting Area".

In 1661, Cheng Cheng-Kung established a country, governing Tien Hsing and Wan Nien counties. Chiayi City was governed by Tien Hsing County .

In 1684 (Kanghsi Year 23), Taiwan was brought into the domain of the Ching Dynasty, establishing three counties such as Chulo , Taiwan , and Fengshan. Chiayi City then was governed by Chulo County .

In 1787, Emperor Chienlung in the Ching Dynasty praised the Chulo volunteer army by giving the name “Chiayi”, which was the sole and special example granted by the emperor in person.

Chiayi City was developed in earlier time, and the Dutch left some historic relics, such as" red-hair well" and" red-hair pond " etc. In the time of Cheng in the Ming Dynasty, there were camp towns set up in the settled field, and the settlements were gradually formed. In Kanghsi Year 43 (1704), the county government returned sovereignty to Chuloshan ( Chiayi City ) and built up city gates, which were the earliest gates in Taiwan .

In the Japanese colony time (1895), A department governing Chianyi County was set up in Chiayi
City , and it started prosperity.

In 1945 Taiwan was recovered from Japan occupation, Chiayi City was set as a city under control of provincial government. In 1950, Chiayi was demoted as a city under control of county government.
In 1982, it resumed the city status under control of provincial government.

	Chiayi City is a historic city with humanities, enjoying the good reputation of"painting city". Taiwan's most precious " Cochin Pottery " craft also originated here, a city filled with culture, art and enthusiasm.
	To interweave distinctive historic site, genuine traditional light repast, and cultural scenic spots, the city has becomes elegantly intellectual and sentimental. In the last few decades, Chiayi City has created well-known " stone monkey" carving art. Annual musical stanza & activities are periodically held, which has already become a national event. The legendary forest railroad of Mt. Ali has even won praises from the international media.
